ST. EPHRAIM MONASTERY MA'RAT SEYDNAYAH, DAMASCUS, SYRIA

The following information is extracted from the speech given by Economic Consultative Committee during the inauguration ceremony held on 14SEP1996:- Work started ten years ago. Very humble start, yet with the generous donations from different countries where the Syrian Orthodox people exist, it was constructed to become a great project in Our Syrian Orthodox Church. Area 4,000sqm.

The Monastery is composed of five storeys : -

  • Kitchen, Restaurant, Warehouses, and service rooms are situated in the basement.
  • First Floor includes classrooms, Management Rooms, Lecturing and Seminar rooms.
  • Second Floor is composed of Bedrooms for the Monks, Seminary students, and administration staff.
  • Third Floor is composed of the Church, Reception Hall, Guests suits and the Library.
  • Fourth Floor is composed of rooms for visiting scholars.

The above were furnished for the capacity of 60 persons, whilst the work continues to furnish the rest of the Monastery to ensure the best service and reception to all users and visitors all the time.

May God bless Our Leader Moran Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas, Patriarch of Antioch and the Universal Syrian Orthodox Church for the great efforts rendered to ensure the completion of this cornerstone in Our Syrian Orthodox Church's history.

Thanks also go to all the generous faithful who have donated for the construction of this project.
